Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Hello.

We are glad you’re here. I’m Jenni and my husband is Kaine. We are excited to share what we are doing with our wild and precious lives.

The current plan…

We have left our house by the beach for more green space in the hills beyond Melbourne. I’ve never been the custodian of this much space, unless you count the small farm in Idaho where I grew up. Kaine has lived all over New Zealand (where he grew up) and traveled the world extensively over the past decade or so, never calling a place home for more than a few years. I grew up in one farmhouse where my parents still live. I have owned a few houses and done a bit of renovation and gardening while raising my two girls. They have both become adults somehow, and are off on adventures of their own.

You can read more about us in our introduction posts here (Kaine) and here (Jenni).

We’re not total newbies at all of this, but we certainly have a lot to learn, and I have a new hemisphere to figure out. We hope you’ll come along and learn with us as we attempt biodynamic gardening, reduce our energy use, and create a functional home we can love.

What you’ll get:

  • Weekly posts by either Kaine or Jenni about something we are up to or something we are thinking about related to our lives here among the gum trees.

  • Monthly newsletters with more of an overview of what projects are underway and what’s coming up, things growing in our garden, recipes we are cooking with what’s in season, media we are into (books, film, other accounts we are enjoying), and community updates (online and IRL).

We hope you’ll join the conversation as we share our stories so we can learn from each other, inspire one another, and make a difference together.

Maybe you are like me, making big life changes after your children have grown, or maybe you realized in the last few years that there is beauty in slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and re-evaluating how you spend your time, or perhaps you are just starting your family and you want to create a rich and curious life for your children and yourself that’s also friendly to this planet we call home. Whatever the reason, we have a lot to learn from each other. Perfection isn’t the goal here, but there is always room for a little improvement.

People

I'm Jenni, an American living in the hills outside Melbourne, Australia, married to Kiwi, writing about our rural life together on Gum Tree Acre and writing about everything on Brave Girl Diaries.
I'm a kiwi (not the fruit or the bird) living in Melbourne, Australia. Moving from the beach to the bush. A tree-change as they call it. I've spent many years travelling and now it's time to plant some roots, literally.
